Hands-On Boating Classes
Boating Basics
This is a private three-hour, hands-on class with a US Coast Guard credentialed female captain that brings you up to speed on best navigation practices, necessary safety equipment and maneuvering in close quarters. Students learn on their own vessel with the guidance of an experienced mariner.
Captain Amanda has been working on the River for nearly ten years, five of which were with TowBoatUS, assisting stranded boaters with tows, ungroundings and more. Amanda is currently the delivery captain at Spicer Marine, Central and Northern New York’s dealer for Parker Offshore, Regulator Marine, Sailfish Boats and Sportsman Boats.
Additionally, Amanda holds two master’s degrees in education from St. Lawrence University and The College of William & Mary in Virginia and spent four years as the Director of Education at the Antique Boat Museum. This class offers students the opportunity to learn, improve and have fun on the water in a safe, professional and low-stress environment.
Private, hands-on boating lessons are capped at three (3) students to ensure everyone has a chance to practice and learn together.
Boating Basics Testimonials
“My Grandson and I have just taken the Practical Boating Course that Captain Amanda offers. I have been boating on the St. Lawrence for 30 years and was surprised how much I learned in this 3 hour course. We covered docking, boat handling in different wave situations, maneuvering and docking in tight situations and operating your vessel efficiently. I highly recommend this course to every boater interested in improving their boating knowledge and skills. 5 Stars!” - Frank M., Wellesley Island
